What Are The Odds Against Survivial

Wandering around in the grocery store, my usual trek, analyzing the nutritional value of new products all the while; watching a slender woman nicely dressed, reaching into the doughnut bin for the most colorfully sprinkled coated icing, on top of the biggest doughnut I had ever seen. I wondered if that was the only thing she was going to eat today; not thinking she was buying it for someone else.

I thought about our neighbor who was diagnosed with kidney cancer two weeks ago. It's as large as a grapefruit or close to it. He has always been healthy; but what does he eat to have a cancer that large in his kidneys.  Or is it, what he eats?

I thought about my husband having his colonoscopy this week which he gets periodically now after he had a few polyps removed from his colon a few years ago. His diet did not change much until after his prostate cancer surgery two years ago. Now we both eat lots of vegetables, salads and vegetable drinks.  Not a vegetarian diet, but close enough to feel cancer free; and if not; so be it. What's a body to do?

I pick up a product that looks appetizing and buy it for it's nutritional benefits.

Realizing there are no guarantees in life, I am presently considering the odds against my survival. Eating that doughnut.  Driving 30 miles to Los Angeles in bumper to bumper maximum poisonous gas, so my husband can get his colonoscopy.

I am betting on the doughnut with 4.3g of Protein nutritional value.
