Episode 2: Coyote Bait

Monday morning Memorial Day and my husband is pissed at Kira, our little American Rat Terrier.
Evidently, the encounter she had with a young coyote 3 days earlier in which it took a bite out of her back and left a deep tooth mark hole, did not sit well with her and she was ready for another fight head on.

After her morning walk, my husband decided to do some front yard gardening at the last minute before he headed for the airport for yet another business trip. It's around 6 AM and Kira sat patiently in front of the mailbox on the curb looking out of the cul de sac towards the road from the bike trail.
He just happened to look up from his work to see Kira silently charging down the road.
Normally, she would bark and growl when she sees another dog in the distance. A warning sign. Not this time. He saw the coyote walking back and forth in the road watching Kira come.
Upon deaf ears, Kira ignored her owner's command and kept charging towards the coyote that had taken a bite out of her.

This whole incident reminded me of the time when the girls were young and my husband said he would watch the kids in the pool while he gardened. I was in the kitchen looking out the wall length window, watching him watch the kids because as I learned over the years, he focuses on the immediate job in front of him instead of his surroundings. I saw the second child jump in the pool immediately after the first child, landing on top of the other. My husband was directly over the incident, weeding in the planter, completely unaware. I ran yelling, from the kitchen towards the pool, to warn him to get the child out of the pool. She was slightly traumatized.  I know it can take only a moment in the wrong place at the wrong time, to die.

This time, my husband was alert when Kira silently left the yard. Maybe the silence was more palpable of an omen; than the rambunctious sound of kids playing.

He started running towards Kira, yelling for her to stop.  When she stopped, he hit her with his hat because he was so upset with her; knowing it could be her death awaiting.  As soon as he turned to walk home, she bolted again towards the coyote. This time the coyote came closer.  My husband's only hope was to chase the coyote away by running towards it waving his arms. As the coyote ran, so did Kira run towards it.

Could she survive a coyote fight?   I guess I will never know since she just limited her freedom for lack of having a sixth sense.

We Punched a Hole in the Planet....

Flying over Earth in my mini- brain, I noticed we punched a hole in the planet and we can't plug it up and it won't stop leaking.

Where is Hans Brinker, when you need him? The Hero of Haarlem who saved his little town from drowning by putting his finger in the dyke. Novelist Mary M. Dodge in her imaginary wisdom made him come alive and when others heard the story and did not believe Hans was a true living little hero; she apparently had one of her other imaginary characters come alive to back up the story:

"... that little boy represents the spirit of the whole country. Not a leak can show itself anywhere either in its politics, honor, or public safety, that a million fingers are not ready to stop it, at any cost."
   http://members.chello.nl/m.jong9/map12/hansbrinker.html

Apparently there is a lack of integrity, and public safety in America; but never a lack of politics in our governmental system.  Unfortunately it will take more than Hans's little finger; Obama and BP's big heads to stop the gushing vein of oil and gas. It will take imagination.

I know there is a solution so simple that no one thought of it. Someone must be experimenting in their sinks. Try stopping olive oil from gushing out of a pipe. Would you use dirt and water (mud), or balls and tires?

Help me out here.

Coyote Bait

I knew it was going to happen one day when I let Kira, our 14 pound American Rat Terrier out, unleashed in the front yard for a pee early in the morning.
She runs out under the opening electric garage door into the cul de sac of our suburban neighborhood around 6:30 AM.  It's daylight already, but everyone is still sleeping and everything is quiet. She likes to go out barking; alerting everyone that she's present. Waking people up.

Letting her out first thing in the morning saves me from walking her so early when I know coyotes are around. I have run into a few over the years. They scare me more than Kira and I am the one who runs. I see coyotes everywhere, not just on the bike or horse trail. My friend was walking her two large Weimaraners when they came upon 4 coyotes traveling together; coming from the undeveloped outer city limits to town to go hunting for anything small enough to eat. We have plenty of rabbits, but little dogs and cats are easy prey because they are trapped in backyards. The coyotes attacked one of her more aggressive dogs who fought back. They had a stand off then her dog came to her. She said it was the scariest feeling to be so defenseless in the middle of a dog fight.

I heard stories. One woman who had her nose half bitten off trying to protect her dog. My neighbor had 7 cats eaten by coyotes. Another neighbor had a cat who lived outdoors for years before it became too old and too slow to out run one. It was found in the backyard; that is, it's head was found one morning. People on the bike trail told me about a little dog who was in the backyard and a coyote jumped a 6 foot fence and ran after it.  The owners saw their little dog flying through the doggy door of their home and the head of the coyote coming through the door also; latching onto the dog's hind legs, dragging it back out the door.Where there are two dogs in a family; the coyote always comes back to get the second one; if they missed it the first time.

I was standing by the door when I heard this high pitched sound as if little girls were screaming out with their last breath of air.  I have heard in the past, Kira scream at a high pitch squeal like a little girl being stabbed to death; but that's usually when the neighbor's tom cat is after her when she gets too close. Kira always looks for cats in the neighbor's yard against her better judgment.

This time the squeal was louder and deadlier, as it came and came and came without taking a breath.  I was expecting Kira to come running around the corner from our neighbor's house as she usually does, but she didn't come. I started walking fast to the end of the driveway thinking I had to save Kira from a cat; at the same time wanting to stop the piercing sounds that I thought were from little girls who might be witnessing a dog fight. Little did I know it was Kira screaming.

Kira casually came running around the corner from our neighbor's house to our driveway.
She usually is alone as the cat doesn't follow her.  The light tanned hairy blob that trotted behind her was just two feet away from her and it was slightly a blur as my brain did not quite comprehend the possibility of Kira being coyote bait.
Kira was not running as fast as she runs from a cat, as the coyote was trotting behind her, as if taking a leisurely jog.

Once my husband and I were standing next to Kira; there was a stand off. The coyote eyed Kira from the center of the road and waited. Kira held her own, feeling brave with backup support. She ran towards the coyote a few times, not listening to us when we called her.
I held up my arms to pretend to be bigger than I am and the coyote got scared and ran a short distance down the road. Kira probably thinking the coyote ran because of her fierce presence started after her. Little did she know that she was breakfast.

Kira was so excited. Her tail was wagging even though she had a bite from a coyote tooth deep in the center of her back that bled. I washed it off and put neosporin on it. She has all her rabies shots.

She was so active after that engagement she would not sit still.  I took her for a walk shortly thereafter; when we came across the same coyote further down into the housing area. Kira saw it first.  Kira wanted to attack the coyote and pulled on her leash as the coyote came towards us. It would have approached us closer, if I had not held up my arms with the stick to scare it off.

Clueless Kira struts along down the road, as if, her fierce presence scared the coyote off.  Never mind her ear piercing screams of terror during the attack; that has nothing to do with her stance as a fierce fighting machine in her mind.

Tangerine Trees and Marmalade sky moments

After a five year long, I think, could be four and a half,  stay at McLean Hospital, Appleton House in Belmont and at Gould Farm in Monterey, Massachusetts; both of which have a home environment for mentally ill people, Kristine feels it is time for her to set some goals and move on. She is coming home  for good.  She is calling often to tell us the latest news about her progress and talks about her future goals. She would not have gotten this far without the managed cared she received, including her medication.

At these privately funded mentally ill residential facilities the patients are called 'guests.' If you are paying an arm and a leg for private residential living; they can afford to call you a "guest," instead of a patient. I can't help laugh every time I hear that word; but I know it's common sense to make patients feel it's a home away from home and not a ward or lock up. There are no bars and 'guests' can come and go freely after all their chores and meetings are completed. They do take a breathalyzer test when they come back to their 'guest' home to make sure they were not having too much fun on the town.

Here I am worrying the whole week because as soon as I closed my eyes to sleep my husband says that
Kristine wants to drink alcohol occasionally.  I tossed and turned all night thinking about it because
I remembered Kristine drinking and she acts just like anyone who drinks although it is worse when it's a mentally ill person. Drinking could cause death by overdosing on prescription medications. We hear about it all the time with famous people who die on prescription drugs and alcohol. Or drinking can keep her from remembering to take her daily medications which creates a bad case scenario for anyone trying to control their mind and moods through drugs.

My husband tells me not to say anything to Kristine about her wanting to drink when she comes home. Don't antagonize her to the point she will retaliate. That's the difference between him and me. I always bring up the subject. My daughters always come back with the comment:  I called you to see how you are doing and you do nothing but nag at me. I am going to hang up now.
My response is always the same too: That's my job. No one else is going to tell you what you don't want to hear. That's the mom's job as lousy as it is.

Kristine called to tell me that she sent me a book that she is reading Eat Pray and Love by Elizabeth Gilbert.  It's a spiritual journey of a woman who traveled through Italy, India and Indonesia.  I asked her how she heard about it. She said she heard other guests at the farm talking about it and she bought it when she was downtown.
I had also sent her a book about a Yogi I heard about from a cigarette vendor, a Middle Eastern Indian, naturally. He stopped smoking and drinking after reading the yogi book.

The Yogi, came highly recommended; highly because George Harrison, the Beatle, is already high in the sky having passed away and he is probably with Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,  the Beatles song
"...picture yourself in a boat on a river,
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies.
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly,
       A girl with kaleidoscope eyes....."

specifically for someone on drugs.

It's really a meditation book to help Kristine have more coping techniques to survive in the world without anxiety; one of her symptoms.

Our conversation goes from spiritual guidance straight into " why do you want to screw up your whole life by wanting to drink?"
I am an adult. I only want one drink to calm my nerves. I like the taste. Whine, whine whine.

I said to her that she will be destroying everything she worked for in her life, if she goes down that path.  Because she can't drink alcohol I have decided to cut back on my drinking habits too.  I feel better and I have more energy. I am in more control of my life. Even so-called, normal people cannot control themselves when they drink.
If she thinks she is an adult, then she will have to get herself out of the psyche ward when she makes bad choices; because I am not getting her out, anymore when she is self-destructive.  Nag, nag, nag.

Naturally, it ended up on a bad note. Naturally, my husband said: I knew you would bring it up.
Well, I am not him. I won't wait until she is drunk to tell her we will not continue to support her. I think she should know the rules before the problem comes up.

It reminds me of what Pelosi said about passing the ObamaCare Bill: "we have to pass the bill (we have to create a problem) so that you can find out what is in it, (and fix it later) away from the fog of the controversy. ..."
I know that God lets the mentally ill run the country, if not the entire world; while all the sane people are locked up in sanitariums. All anyone has to do is look at the decisions that our government is making in regard to the national debt and the oil spill in the Gulf.
HOLY SMOKES !
Even I am ready for 'a boat ride on a river with tangerine trees and marmalade skies' and some freaky girl 'with kaleidoscope eyes.....'

Kristine said she really enjoys reading about Elisabeth's spiritual journey about gurus and yogis and I think she continued reading the book after we hung up because she called the following day and said to me:
" I am sorry I upset you when I talked about wanting to drink. I feel it's taking me this long to get better and I don't want to mess it up. I would prefer to not drink so you can have your sanity, mom.
I feel privileged that I can come home for good and I am looking forward to being home."

CNN Liberals and Fox News Conservatives

As a once bleeding heart liberal who watches a lot of Fox News these days, I try to see both sides of the issues. The more I switch back and forth between CNN and Fox News, the more I cringe at the thought that I only watched liberal news.  I am hoping the news media was not as bias as they appear to be today when I compare all the information between the conservatives and the liberals.  I came up with enough analogy to give me whiplash.  Try to keep up or you'll get whiplashed too.

I know I was a bleeding heart liberal in the 1970's and 1980's because I was always on the verge of over throwing the government;  if  I could only find someone to babysit.  There's a lot to be said about motherhood, especially after WWII when the men came home from war and tried to get the wives back into the kitchen, out of  the work force.  It reminds me of  "The Taming of the Shrew."  But I digress.
I did understand the liberals, but I don't recognize them anymore. I don't identify with spreading the wealth with someone who doesn't work as hard as I do. I don't identity with groups of people who feel they are entitled to government assistance at every turn in the road. I do believe in government laws that would keep society from discriminating against minorities or majorities; in order, to help everyone find a job to sustain a livelihood.  I won't rule out legalizing prostitution and marijuana if you really enjoy it. Obviously, that's the liberal in me talking.

I copied below this bit of information for a website that sounded interesting only because I hear repeatedly that the Obama Administration is pushing Progressivism , but  'economic elitist'  progressiveness in my view.

http://www.progressiveliving.org/progressivism.htm

Whose Interests Does Progressivism Represent?
Progressivism is a political movement that represents the interests of ordinary people in their roles as taxpayers, consumers, employees, citizens, and parents. To coin a phrase, progressivism champions government "of the people, by the people, for the people."Given this mission, one might expect all democracies to be made up predominantly of one or another Progressive parties. Unfortunately, this isn't the case.
Why Aren't All Democracies Progressive?
Progressive "Economic elites emerge in every society and invariably seek to promote their own interests, all too often against those of taxpayers, consumers, employees, citizens, and parents. By definition, economic elites enjoy greater wealth, and therefore influence, than the ordinary citizen, and they typically attempt to exploit these advantages politically, using them as leverage to obtain still greater wealth and influence. And since the desire for wealth and power is rarely satisfied, there tend to be recurring cycles of concentrated political and economic power, together with the corruption that always attends these. One such cycle of corruption was seen in the United States around the turn of the 20th century, culminating in the economic crash of 1929. At the turn of the 21st century, the US is in the midst of another."

I don't understand a liberal who would vote for a "economic elitist" unless dressed in a traditional Progressive sheep's clothing; anymore than an American Indian understood a European who came to America to conquer him.
I tried the American Indian's proverb:  walk a mile in another's moccasins, but the Indian could no more dress up in European fine clothing and pretend to be a barbarian; than a European aristocrat could dress up in a bear skin and pretend to be civilized.
Meaning that the Indians (Liberals)were taken by surprise by the brutality of the evaders (Economic Elitists); because they were wearing refined clothing and had wonderful table manners.  The Indians having learned the hard way, I think it's wise to follow the Arab proverb instead:  keeping your friends close; and your enemies even closer.

Liberals won't stand down. They are promoting negative diversity to stir the "black pot"because they want sympathy for their black messiah. The Liberals never refer to Obama as half white. God Forbid, the black people knew they voted for a half white president.
It reminds me of a religious group that told me how they converted backwoods heathens into believing that Jesus existed. They showed them a picture of  Jesus.  One heathen said:  Jesus must have lived. Look !  Here's a picture of him.

Still choosing the heathen's point of view by playing the Obama race card, the Liberals are again trying to increase their popularity which is sagging in the polls due to the 'egg on their face' after they promoted their long awaited messiah which never materialized. The sheep's costume is unzipping or malfunctioning to reveal the truth about this administration's progressive agenda.

CNN blindly supported Obama; then they called the Tea party crowd racist and nonessential.  LOL.  The same Tea Party crowd that is whopping their ass at the voting polls.  Another LOL moment.

Why do I watch Fox News? For one: Fox News reported that TIME magazine; the one I canceled last year after a 20 year subscription, did not show one Tea Party movement  in their 100 best moments of the year.  They showed a dust storm photo that showed only the dust, as if that never happens every year in the Middle East.  TIME  magazine and CNN news completely ignore the Tea Party gatherings that stretch across the U.S.A.  As if they were God and had the power to erase them off the face of the planet if they just ignored them. What planet is the Liberal news media on? They can stick their head in the sand; but their derierre is still showing and that's the part everyone sees.

A couple of weeks ago the stock market dropped over 1000 points when Greece declared bankruptcy.  Followed by the announcement that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) of Europe would bail out Greece, the stock market jumped back up to over 400 points.  I was watching the liberal news channel as it reported the good news of the stock market bouncing back from it's free fall.  I am sure everyone watching the news on that channel were elated and thought " all is well" in the land of Obama.

On the other hand,  Fox's conservative view said that the good news of the rise in stocks comes with a price tag.  The conservative reporting on that day continued to elaborate on the finer details of why the stock market rose and then eventually fell again.  Obama promised the International Monetary Fund (IMF) 17 % of  the funds to bail out Greece. That's 17% of American taxpayer money. The money we don't have to pay for the National debt that we owe to China with interest.   Never mind the Greeks are socialistic and their unions are demanding higher pay and killing any innocent bystander who stands in their way of retiring at age 55 with full benefits.  Our tax dollars support this kind of human rights activity?

Obama administration sends monetary support to the Greek's socialistic self-destructive government at the same time he is condemning Arizona for protecting their borders from illegal Mexicans; ignoring the kidnappings and murders by saying the number of crimes committed by illegals in Arizona are down.  That's positive.  I hope you know I am being sarcastic.

Obama repeatedly re-enforced the same rhetoric today on the White House lawn standing next to the Mexican president in front of the Press Corp. He said that the Arizona law is "misguided"; in support of the president of Mexico's comments that Arizona will treat Mexicans unfairly. Naturally, the Mexican president does not want illegals thrown out of the United States because the illegals  send  U.S dollars back to Mexico.  DUH, that's a no brainier.

Not only does Obama attack the rights of American citizens while ignoring the crimes of foreign entities; he sends his appointees out to propagandize his ideology.  National Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and the U.S Attorney General Eric Holder both openly campaigned against the Arizona Immigration Law without having read the law. Their ignorance of the law televised at the congressional hearings this week.  They obviously don't know the Arizona Law is based on the Federal law; the one Attorney Gen. Holder has some jurisdiction over and should be using to control the crimes on the border, protecting American citizens. Instead, he is threatening a lawsuit against the American citizens who need protecting.

Congress has yet to ask Obama if he read the Arizona law. He obviously has not read the law or he would know that Arizona is not treading on the right's of legal citizens when stopping them first for breaking a law; and then, asking for identification.  Obama would know that the Federal Law is more strict and does tread on the rights of everyone as they can stop anyone they suspect as being illegal and ask for papers before a crime is committed; unlike the Arizona Law. Why does the media fall for these obviously poisoned Obama  stories?

Remember the 'beer summit' Obama had after he threw the white cop under the bus before Obama knew the facts about the case.

The conduct is Obama's politics, as usual, to control the message to the public by giving the illusion of ethical values. This Administration and Liberal news media encouraging the propagandizing of 'untruths or half-truths' upon ignorant viewers.  They do it all in the name of justice even though they never read the law; starting from the top of the United States legal system with the U.S Attorney General.

It's Anti-American to create an environment of adverse cultural diversity within the United States by pitting illegal criminals against legal immigrants/American citizens; race against race.  The Liberal and Progressive Economic Elitists of this Administration repeatedly demonstrates Anti-American sentiments by supporting foreign governments whose countries are self-destructive. Who wants to live in Greece or Mexico today?  Yet, this Administration is sending our money in support of their crimes; instead of protecting Americans.
Being liberal to me does not mean becoming so free I throw out the law that protects the rights of American citizens.

Good News vs. Bad News

Since I report on the bad news, I might as well report on the good news. Remember that saying: When we don't get any news; it's good; because we only hear the bad news.

Of course that is not always true. Some people want to give you the good news to rub your face it in; but then it's not good news, for you, anyway.

This good news is in the celebration of life. Some of our friends who are diagnosed with cancer are getting great reports: one through chemotherapy which deduced the size of his pancreatic cancer; and the other, having the cancer removed completely through surgery. It was kidney cancer. They are getting better. There must be a lot of people praying. I know they are spiritual and most of all they are good people to have around.

Maybe God is balancing out good and evil after all. Watching the daily news which is often bad news is stressful and dooming; especially the economy. It 's like watching the murder of America taking place. The American witnesses stand by watching; all the while waiting to vote for reform to see justice play out.

This would be as if a murder were occurring on your watch while you stand by and do nothing because you have to wait until the law enforcement show up; the murderer goes to trial and Maybe, just Maybe, they are found guilty; that is; voted out of office. But like the murdered victim (America), it's already too late for her because there is no intervention or coup to save her life; but only Crime and Punishment which we see daily in the Congressional Hearings.
Gee, I wonder if my phone will be tapped?

This has always been my philosophy that "care takers" should run the country, as they think
"preventive measures." Mother's, dad's, doctors, nurses and anyone preventing something terrible from happening. I hear and heard too many times in the work force:  Don't worry about a foreseeable problem now. Wait until something terrible happens; then we will fix it.  Just like the oil spill. Just like the bankrupting of America.

Above the sad news of the death of America; at least there is some great news from friends who are celebrating their life of recovery levitating our spirits.

Mother's Day Random Thoughts.

This week Kim's doctor said that he found and removed two benign looking polyps during his colonoscopy. Kim wasn't expecting any since he has been on a cancer free diet regiment since his first colonoscopy 7 years ago when benign polyps were found and removed.  The doctor said that polyps are like moles. I already felt that polyps were like extra cell growths; like moles. Some are bad and can kill you.

The older I get, the more vitamins I take while eating healthier, I notice a new tiny mole here and there on my body and I think: What the hell? Cells are still growing on my body even as I age? Maybe I am eating too healthy and providing too many nutrients to my body and it doesn't know what to do with it, so it keeps producing more cells. I have heard that extra vitamins are wasted because the body discharges them; obviously not all of them; as that mole is not growing on air.

It's Mother's Day and Kim made cappuccino coffee for me. I got flowers from my daughters ( Kim ordered them and the girls wanted to know what they looked like when they called).

I still made Kim's veggie juice as he is too slow for me.  I like to get it done and get out of the kitchen. I prepare all the veggies the night before and in the morning, stick them in my larger mouth juicer which is faster and sounds like a saw cutting down logs. It took awhile to get over that frightening sound of a rapid, cutting blade.  Every time I pushed the vegetables into the funnel towards the blade, I thought about the movie, "Fargo." The criminal started; but didn't finish grinding up his partner in the tree grinder; leaving one leg sticking up from the top when the sheriff pulled up.

And although, Kim's smaller juicer is easier to clean; it's slow going with it's pestle and mortar grinding method.  I don't know if it's worse listening to a saw mill grinding up supposedly human parts or listening to the screeching ungodly cries of a leafy green chard as it squeezes its way through Hell.

Juicers should be labeled: Ways to Torture Vegetables. Do we know if vegetables feel pain. I am sure Obama would give me a multimillion dollar stimulus government grant to figure this one out.

In the meantime, Kristine and Kathleen called all week regarding Mother's Day. Kristine always sends gifts and spends too much money, but she always remembers special occasions. Kathleen usually sends gifts too late or not at all.  In Kathleen's defense, I tell them to save their money (or our money). A phone call would be nice. The point being, if she calls, it's the same as a gift.  I don't want to hear that she is 'going to send a gift' after the due date.

I am sure the day I tell Kathleen her gift is in the mail late; will be a rude awakening for her. Do unto others as they do unto you, always shocks the hell out of the other person because they have no clue what it feels like to be treated the way they treat others.  But on the flip side, everyone responses differently. What may hurt one person's feeling; may not hurt another's. One never knows.

And speaking of doing to others; I had to cancel a lunch date with a friend. She immediately told me how sad she felt about my canceling our date for I had never canceled on her before.  Although, in the past, she had always made me feel bad by canceling at the very last minute, just as I was about to walk out the door to meet her; if only because she changed her mind. It suddenly dawned on her that this is how a person feels when they are dumped. Unfortunately, it took a long time for her to realize this action of inconsideration.  I always tried not to treat her the way she treated me all those years.

To go against our natural grain to learn a lesson or prove a point is hard to do.

Here goes another Mother's Day. I don't feel any different from the day before. I still have the same body and mind I had yesterday, although it was appreciated today.

Favoring Mediocrity

When my daughters and my nephew were children,  I remember one of the grandparents doting on my oldest as if she was going to be a CEO of a major company. She was smart and related to adults in conversation. He always wanted to talk to her on the phone. He wanted to know what she was doing. He praised her excessively, all the while, ignoring the other grandchildren. He acted as if they didn't deserve his attention.

He's selection of who was deserving and who wasn't deserving of his godly attention was so blatant. I always remembered when he called. He only wanted to  talk to my oldest daughter of the children. He never inquired about or asked to speak to the youngest.

I once asked my youngest daughter how she felt about being excluded by her grandparent. She said it was fine because she did not have to live up to that expectation he had for her sister. Although, I am sure she felt hurt, she also felt free to do as she pleased which she did.

Soon after that grandparent died, my oldest daughter became mentally ill with a schizoaffective disorder. Although, she never lost her intelligence, she acquired disabilities of hearing voices and having anxiety attacks. It has taken five years to manage the intrusive disorder through drugs, so she can live a fuller life.

The other grandchildren who were completely ignored continued on with their supposedly mediocre lives; breaking free from that mediocrity status that was given to them by their grandparent.  They grew up socially adjusted with many friends and very happy; achieving success in their own individual way.

I remember my husband saying one day that he was glad that grandparent died so he would not see what became of our eldest daughter.   I had often wondered too; if that grandparent had lived, would he have ignored her when she no longer lived up to his expectation; like he ignored the other children.

I am also glad he died because I don't want to know. Death is sometimes a good thing. Although, I felt he would know anyway, even in death. Only now in death, he can see he's not God and he can't control the destiny of children by willing it through favoritism.

Although I hear that favoritism was promoted in the Bible; in God's eyes, it might seem a good thing to be favored, but it's a bad example; even for God to use. But since man wrote the Bible, I am sure if it were written by a woman, the other child would have been favored.

Everyone has their favorites which is not a good thing and should have been one of the Commandments. Why only 10 Commandments? Because God only gave man 10 fingers? What about the toes?

Looking back from the future, I often think: we never knew what God was going to hand us, but I do feel He did favor us by giving us the strength to go forward. He favored my daughter by giving her more depth and understanding of the world in which she lives beyond the superficial world she thought she wanted. He favored us by giving us the means to provide for her care; through the professional and neighborly support we needed.

He favored us, I feel, not because He thought we are brilliant and talented, but because He knows we are Mediocre.

What is the allure of the rose, but the intimation of human nature's desires.

New Photos I took today of some beautiful roses my neighbor gave me.

What Are The Odds Against Survivial

Wandering around in the grocery store, my usual trek, analyzing the nutritional value of new products all the while; watching a slender woman nicely dressed, reaching into the doughnut bin for the most colorfully sprinkled coated icing, on top of the biggest doughnut I had ever seen. I wondered if that was the only thing she was going to eat today; not thinking she was buying it for someone else.

I thought about our neighbor who was diagnosed with kidney cancer two weeks ago. It's as large as a grapefruit or close to it. He has always been healthy; but what does he eat to have a cancer that large in his kidneys.  Or is it, what he eats?

I thought about my husband having his colonoscopy this week which he gets periodically now after he had a few polyps removed from his colon a few years ago. His diet did not change much until after his prostate cancer surgery two years ago. Now we both eat lots of vegetables, salads and vegetable drinks.  Not a vegetarian diet, but close enough to feel cancer free; and if not; so be it. What's a body to do?

I am betting on the doughnut with 4.3g of Protein nutritional value.
